Proposition 1

The tax levy is proposed at .50 per $100 of ASSESSED evaluation. Assessed evaluation is different, much lower, than appraised value. A couple examples of homes and their values straight from the assessors website show how this will change:

1. Appraised Value $94,300      Assessed Value   $17,920

Now we’re at .30 per $100, $17,920 / $100 = $179.20 x .30 = $53.76 or
.15 cents per day

With the additional .50 the same house at $17,920 / $100 = $179.20 x .80 = $143.36 or
.40 cents per day

2. Appraised Value $174,800     Assessed Value $33,220

Now we’re at .30 per $100, $33,220 / $100 = $332.20 x .30 = $99.66 or
.27 cents per day

With the additional .50 the same house at $33,220 / $100 = $332.20 x .80 = $265.76 or
.73 cents per day

This is still much less than
the cost of a cup of coffee everyday for comparison sake.

We have 3 points that will be
addressed with the proposed tax levy.

1. Our first priority will be building a new district headquarters. This will give us a much closer proximity and quicker response times to the bulk of the residences within the district, such as your subdivision. In emergencies, minutes and even seconds are crucial. For medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, etc. the faster medical attention is received the likelier survival will be. For fires, a free burning fire can double in size every few seconds resulting in more damage to the structure but even more important to us could be the difference between being able to save a life of someone who could become trapped inside the fire.

2. Having a station closer to the more populated areas of the district is very important for another reason. At our last ISO evaluation we scored well enough to get a 3 classification and were taken up, from a 3 to a 4, one of the major reasons was not having a station closer to the area. Meaning your subdivision should have been rated the 3 classification which would have saved you even more money on your homeowners insurance policy.

3. As mentioned this will be a modern station that will serve as a source of pride for the community. Also looking into the future it will give us the facilities needed to house a career staff. This is something that has become very needed and crucial as the number of people who are able to commit the time to volunteering is unfortunately shrinking rapidly. At this time we
virtually have no volunteers available during the daytime hours, in 2011 11% of our calls for service was answered by 0 or 1 Firefighters due to everyone having regular jobs, families, and other activities. This is a very concerning fact for us. It is our hope this station
could foster some interest and bolster our volunteer staff until such time we could hire career Firefighters that would be supplemented by the volunteers.
It is our ultimate goal after the station is built to be able to staff the station with Firefighters as soon as possible.

When we came to the voters in 2000 asking for your vote to become a tax supported district we promised our first priority would be the lowering of our ISO rating. We did exactly what we said we'd do and lowered our rating from a 6/7 to a 4/6, resulting in thousands of dollars in savings for the homeowners of our district. We are once again
asking for your help to build a new station and move toward hiring some Firefighters to increase the level of service to the district.

Your support in this proposal would be tremendously appreciated. If you or any of the homeowners have any questions at all please feel free to contact me anytime at 417-569-5858 and I will make myself available to talk
about this. We also have plenty of the yard signs and would appreciate anyone willing to show their support by placing one in their yards, again please contact me and I will get them one.

Election date will be
Tuesday, June 5th.
